Exploring other categories in cssbuy spreadsheet
The other category is where things land when no main shelf fits. It can be a useful find, but it is also where information is thinnest. This guide explains when to look there, and how to check an unclear listing before treating it as something you can rely on.
When to use the other category
Reach for it only after you have tried the main shelves. A phone case, a cap, a travel pouch or a gift item may not belong with bags or accessories. If your item could reasonably sit in one of the eleven main categories, look there first, because those shelves are more consistent about measurements and photos.
Step one: state the use
For anything unusual, write a one-line use before you look at details: "a pouch to keep chargers tidy in my work bag". That sentence tells you the size limit and the material you need, and it stops an interesting object from turning into an impulse purchase.
Step two: check the product information
| Check | What to find | If missing |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Width, height, depth in centimetres | Do not guess; mark unknown |
| Material | Seller's exact wording | Mark "not stated" |
| Photos | Several angles, ideally in use | Ask for more before buying |
| Availability | Whether it can be ordered now | Do not treat as in stock |
| Delivery notes | Any restrictions on the item | Confirm on the live page |
Step three: compare with a related category
If the item is closest to a bag, compare it with candidates from the bags category on size and material. If it is closest to a small accessory, use the accessories category as a benchmark. A comparison tells you whether the odd item is better, worse or simply different from a familiar one.
Do not treat uncertain items as in stock
An item appearing on a page does not mean it can be ordered today. Treat every unusual listing as unconfirmed until the live page shows that it is available and the delivery notes allow it. Record your own note with the date you checked, because conditions change.
Other category checklist
For each unusual item
- Write the one-line use.
- Check that no main category fits better.
- Record dimensions, material and photos.
- Confirm availability and delivery notes on the live page.
- Compare with the nearest main category.
- Set an AUD ceiling and a date checked.
Where to go next
When you have an item you are serious about, run it through the final shopping checklist before you commit. Browse the other category itself, or return to the cssbuy spreadsheet home page.
