Watch details to review in cssbuy spreadsheet
A watch listing is mostly photographs and a few numbers. This guide shows which details to record, how to match them to your wrist and daily routine, and which claims to leave blank when the listing does not state them. It does not judge movements, water resistance or authenticity.
Know your wrist first
Measure the width of your wrist across the top and the circumference with a soft tape. These two numbers decide whether a case of a given diameter looks proportionate and whether a strap will reach. Keep them at the top of your sheet so every candidate in the watches category faces the same test.
What to record from the listing
| Detail | Write down | If not shown |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | Millimetres across the case | Mark "not stated" |
| Case thickness | Millimetres, if listed | Look for a side-on photo |
| Lug-to-lug | Millimetres, if listed | Compare with wrist width |
| Strap width | Millimetres at the lug | Ask before buying a replacement |
| Strap material | The seller's own wording | Mark "not stated" |
Reading the photographs
Photographs do real work in a watch listing. Look for the dial, the caseback, the clasp and a profile view. Notice whether the images show a real wrist or only a studio render, and whether the dial markings are legible. If one angle is missing, write it down as a question rather than assuming it will look fine.
Claims to leave blank
This guide does not tell you how a watch is powered, how water resistant it is or whether it is authentic, and a listing photo cannot either. If the seller states a movement type or a water rating, copy it exactly and treat it as the seller's claim. If not, leave the column empty. A blank is honest, and it tells you what to ask.
Match the watch to the routine
A thin dress watch suits an office week; a thicker case may catch on cuffs. For a weekend by the water, think about the strap: leather and a swim do not get along. Write the intended use next to each candidate, so the final choice reflects the life it will live, not just the photograph.
